6. Taj Mahal, India

The Taj Mahal is an Islamic ivory-white marble mausoleum on the right bank of the river Yamuna in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was commissioned in 1631 by the fifth Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan to house the tomb of his favourite wife, Mumtaz Mahal; it also houses the tomb of Shah Jahan himself.

The standard entrance ticket to the Taj Mahal costs less than $1 for Indian citizens and around $14 for foreigners. Children under 15 can enter the Taj Mahal for free. You will need to buy an additional ticket (about $2.50 extra) if you want to enter the Taj Mahal mausoleum itself.
